CGI Sliding & Patio Doors: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

If your CGI sliding door is sticking, dragging, leaking, or letting light through where it shouldn’t, we stock and install the replacement parts to get it working again, typically for $180 to $650 installed depending on whether it’s rollers, a lock, weatherstripping, or a full panel assembly. Most jobs take under two hours once we’re on site, and we show up with CGI-compatible parts already on the truck because we know these doors and what West Palm Beach does to them. The way most people find the problem is the same way Ed found it on his own parents’ house off Northlake Boulevard: the door starts fighting you a little more each week until one day you realize you’re using both hands and a hip to get it open.

Which CGI Models This Applies To

CGI sliding and patio doors across their impact-rated lineup share a lot of the same hardware, and the good news is that means fewer guesses when we come out. The parts we typically match are for the CGI Estate Series, Classic Series, and Custom Impact sliding door lines, but we’ve also worked on plenty of their older non-impact models still hanging on in houses from the 1980s and 1990s in Northwood Hills, Flamingo Park, and El Cid. The fastest way to identify what you have is to check the sticker on the door frame or the top rail of the sliding panel: CGI prints the series name and a production code there, and that code tells us exactly what roller diameter, track profile, and lock set the door was built with. One thing to know about CGI specifically: their impact-rated rollers are wider and heavier than what you’d pull off a shelf at a big-box store. If someone replaced your rollers with a generic set, the door will never sit right in the track, and we see that all the time.

When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, we’re straight about the tradeoffs. OEM CGI rollers and locks cost more but carry the exact spec the door was engineered around. There are quality aftermarket equivalents from brands like Prime-Line and Slide-Co that do the job on older, non-impact doors. But on a door that’s supposed to hold a wind-borne missile during a storm, we won’t gamble with a part that fits “close enough.” CGI impact doors are tested as a system, and the hardware is part of that rating. We’re an independent local company, not a CGI dealer or affiliate, but we’ve installed their doors for years and we keep the right parts on hand because our neighbors in West Palm Beach own a lot of them.

Signs Your CGI Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing

  • The door drags or catches mid-slide. This is almost always a roller problem, and on West Palm Beach doors it’s made worse by fine sand and salt spray that settle into the bottom track and grind down the wheels. The bearings get gritty, the wheel flattens on one side, and suddenly the door only wants to open halfway.
  • You hear a grinding or metal-on-metal sound. That’s a roller bearing that has lost its seal and is running dry. On a CGI impact door, the roller assembly is heavier duty, but once the bearing goes, it’s done. The track may also be too narrow for a cheap aftermarket replacement, so the new roller chews itself up in a season.
  • The door won’t latch or the lock feels loose. West Palm Beach heat and humidity cause the door frame to settle and the stile to expand slightly. A CGI multi-point lock that was perfectly aligned at install can fall out of line by an eighth of an inch, which is all it takes to make the handle bind or the deadbolt float.
  • Water stains on the floor or trim near the track. This is a weatherstripping and weep hole issue. CGI doors have drainage channels in the bottom rail, and when those get clogged with pollen, dust, and the occasional bug from living next to the Intracoastal, water backs up and finds the path of least resistance, which is usually your tile.
  • Drafts or visible daylight around the door edge. The pile weatherstripping and sealing gaskets on a CGI door compress over time, especially on south-facing exposures that take direct sun all afternoon. The door still slides, but the thermal seal is gone, and your AC is treating the great outdoors.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

So what does a door like this cost to fix in West Palm Beach? Here’s the honest range based on the hundreds of CGI doors we’ve worked on across Palm Beach County:

  • Roller replacement (pair): $180 to $320 installed, depending on whether it’s a standard roller or the heavy-duty impact-rated set
  • Lock set / handle set replacement: $220 to $400 installed for multi-point lock assemblies
  • Weatherstripping and seal replacement: $140 to $260 installed, full perimeter
  • Track cleaning, realignment, and adjustment: $120 to $200 as a standalone service, often bundled with roller work
  • Full panel replacement (impact-rated CGI): $1,800 to $4,200 depending on size and glass package, custom ordered

The labor is the same whether it’s a $15 roller or a $90 impact roller: we have to remove the panel, support it safely, swap the part, reset the alignment, and test the full slide. That’s usually an hour to ninety minutes. You get a written line-item quote before we start, so you know the part cost and labor separately, and the price doesn’t change once work begins. Every repair we do is covered by our workmanship warranty, and the part itself carries the manufacturer’s warranty where applicable.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check yourself before calling anyone. Take a shop vac to the bottom track; you’d be surprised how often a pebble from a landscaping truck is the whole problem. Wipe down the rollers if you can reach them, and check that the weep holes along the bottom edge of the door are clear of gunk. That’s where we’d honestly stop. The reason is weight: a CGI impact-rated sliding panel can weigh 180 to 250 pounds, and once you lift it out of the track, you’re fighting a heavy, unwieldy sheet of glass that will take a bad bounce off the floor if you lose your grip. We’ve repaired plenty of cracked tiles and dented frames for folks who tried to save a service call and wound up with a much bigger invoice. If the rollers or lock are the actual problem, call us at (561) 660-9539. We’ll pull the panel with the right tools, and Ed’s name is on the truck. That means something.

What Neighbors Say About Winslow Windows & Doors

★★★★★

"Someone tried the back slider while we were away. The glass crazed and held, the alarm never had to earn its keep, and the police report reads better than it might have. Ed came out the next morning to check the frame himself."

CCornelius Adeyemi
★★★★★

"Our insurance agent asked for the wind mitigation paperwork and Ed had the whole file ready the day the job closed, every opening photographed. The premium conversation went very differently this year."

OOdessa Fairbanks
★★★★★

"He replaced the front door and the garage door in the same week, both rated for impact, and lined the frames up so straight my level had nothing to say. My wife stopped hearing the highway from the front room."

MMaximilian Vasquez
★★★★

"The installation was clean and the windows are beautiful. The factory took about six weeks to deliver the units, which Ed told me upfront, but living behind plywood-framed openings in the meantime still tested my patience."

GGuadalupe Zamorano
★★★★★

"Three big companies quoted us and every one sent a salesman with a leased truck. Ed turned up in a truck with his own name on the door, quoted less, and his crew were the same faces on day one and day nine."

YYolanda Betancourt
★★★★★

"We sat out a hurricane behind the windows Ed put in. The gusts threw a neighbour's trampoline down the street and the loudest thing in our house was the kettle. I rang him after to say thank you and he answered his own phone, same as always."

TThaddeus Okonkwo
★★★★★

"The old aluminium sliders howled every afternoon storm and swelter came straight through the glass. The new impact sliders shut with a sound like a bank vault and the back rooms finally hold their temperature."
